The Billings Skate Park was lit up on Thursday evening in honor of the teenager killed on the Crow Reservation last week.

What was meant to be a small gathering of friends turned into a celebration of a young life taken too soon.

Around one hundred people gathered together to honor Mitchell “Jr.” Chandler with candles and stories and remember the impact the 14-year-old had on the skating community.

Those who skated with Chandler shared stories and everyone remembered his distinct smile.

"It's about getting the community back together and everybody that used to be around here all the time together. It blew up more than we thought it was going to," said Chandler's friend, Joel Langton.

"We thought it was just going to be a skate session, but I think family and all kinds of stuff showed up," Langton said.

Shirts honoring Mitchell were passed out to all the attendees of the vigil.
