Earthquake and aftershocks rattle West Yellowstone area

WEST YELLOWSTONE -

A 4.5 Magnitude earthquake was recorded in Yellowstone National Park at 6:48 p.m. on Thursday.

It was followed by 4 small aftershocks ranging from 2.7 to 3.1 magnitude.

The main quake was centered about 5.8 miles underground.

The quake and aftershocks occurred just over 8 miles northeast from West Yellowstone, according to the U.S. Geological Service.

A witness reported that she felt the building she was in move.

Dozens of people reported that they felt it in and around West Yellowstone, Gardiner, Ennis, and Bozeman.

There have been no reports of any injuries or damage.

The West Yellowstone Police department is asking for anyone that has had any property damage to contact them at (406) 646-7600.
