COLSTRIP -

Rosebud County authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in the Rosebud Mine on Thursday morning.

The body was discovered by an employee of the mine around 11 a.m., according to Sheriff Allan Fulton.

Fulton said the man was not an employee of the mine and it's not yet clear how or why he was at the site.

"It does not appear his death is related to work at the mine," said Fulton.

The man has not yet been positively identified, but Fulton said his office has a good idea of who the man is.

Fulton said there is no indication of foul play but he added that nothing has been ruled out.

Fulton did not believe the man died Thursday, but said an autopsy would help determine a cause and time of death.

An employee of the mine was killed in early May when the truck he was operating went over a 100-foot ledge.

Fulton believed the death of the man whose body was found Thursday happened under entirely different circumstances.
