Yellowstone County to test emergency sirens

Posted: Updated:

This is a test. It is only a test.

The Yellowstone County Department of Emergency Services, in cooperation with the National Weather Service and Yellowstone Amateur Radio Emergency Services, will conduct a test of all 24 outdoor sirens across Yellowstone County on Wednesday evening.

The sirens in the communities of Billings, Lockwood, Laurel, Broadview, Custer, Huntley, Shepherd and Worden will go off at 6 p.m. for one minute.

According to a press release, the test is in support of the National Weather Service's Severe Weather Awareness Week and to test the operability of the equipment.

It is also a chance for residents to think about what they would do in case of a real emergency.

If it were a real emergency, the agency recommends residents move inside and seek more information by looking to your television or NOAA Weather Radio for detailed information.
