Two men are in the hospital with gunshot wounds after a verbal altercation with another man on Saturday evening, according to the Billings Police Department.

One victim was shot once which resulted in a non-life-threatening injury. The other victim was shot multiple times and is facing life-threatening injuries.

Gunfire rang out shortly after 6 p.m. at the Rose Park Plaza Apartments complex located on the 2300 block of Avenue C.

Police did not know what sparked the argument, but Sgt. Clyde Reid said a handful of witnesses are being interviewed.

"Their stories are similar but still have some differences that we're going to have detectives come out and try and figure out," Reid said.

It's unclear how many shots were fired.

The suspect, who was armed with a gun when responding officers arrived, was arrested without incident.

He could face two counts of felony assault.

The suspect was not identified.

The victims of the shooting were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the torso.

Another woman who was "causing a verbal disturbance" was arrested at the scene.

Reid said she is a relative of one of the men involved.

Police had the street closed while the investigation continued.

A Chevy Avalanche was inside the crime scene area.
