KALISPELL -

The years in between childhood and adulthood are difficult for anyone, but especially for kids in the foster care system.

Not having a proud family to call you a son or a daughter can feel hopeless, but one teen's perseverance and strength is allowing him to overcome the odds.

On any given day you might find Kenneth Robertson lifting weights at a nearby gym.

"I love the outdoors, swimming, lifting," he said.

He's dreaming of the possibility the future holds, but the 17-year-old is anything but your typical teenager.

"I'm not really a wanter, I'm more like a doer. I'm going to do everything I can set my mind to," Kenneth said.

At 13, his lower leg was amputated but his spirit remains strong.

"Don't let the tiny things in life bog you down," he said.

Kenneth didn't let his injury stop him from hitting the slopes.

"Snowboarding has been a thing that I've been into. I haven't (done) it for a little while so I'm rusty," Kenneth said.

Kenneth's difficulties early in life included his mother’s neglect that had him placed into the foster care system where he still remains.

"I think some people just have to be patient. It's just been my motivator to just get a family and be loved."

The blue-eyed, blonde-haired 11th-grade student has been waiting a lifetime for a forever home.

Through it all, he says his faith in God continues to grow.

"He's helped me all through these years and I believe that he has a purpose," he said.
