Auction art on display at Yellowstone Art Museum

Posted: Updated:

A month and a half long opportunity started last week, to view the art for the Yellowstone Art Museum's annual auction.

The museum hosted its opening reception for the auction on Thursday.

This was the first chance to see the art and meet some of the artists who painted, drew and sculpted the127 pieces of art.

It's the biggest fund raiser and the biggest exhibition of the year for the museum.

Through the years, much of the art from the auction can be seen in homes and businesses.

"That indicates to me that there's a recognition by people who live in this area that the art auction represents living artists who work in their midst," said Robyn Peterson, executive director of the Yellowstone Art Museum. "And they can't make a living unless people buy their work. And it's a good reflection of the state to have so much really top quality cultural activity going on."

The 49th annual Yellowstone Art Museum auction will be held on Saturday, March 4.
