Posted: Updated:

Rocky Mountain College will host 17 ski racing teams from the northwest for this year’s U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association’s Western Regional Championships at Red Lodge Mountain starting Thursday.

According to College Snow Sports.com, both of head coach Jerry Wolf’s Battlin’ Bears squads enter the western regional championships ranked No. 1 in the nation. Both College of Idaho teams, that will also be competing this weekend at Red Lodge, are ranked in the top 10.

Other teams that will be competing for a championship, besides Rocky and the College of Idaho, are: University of Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, Colorado Mesa University, University of Denver, U.S. Air Force Academy, Western State (Colo.) University, Oregon State University – Cascade, University of Oregon, Washington State University, University of Washington, University of British Columbia, Whitman College, University of Idaho, University of Puget Sound and Montana State University.

Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with the women’s GS. The event is free of charge to spectators who want to enjoy the action. Because the race finish is about 300 yards up the hill, some walking up the left side (skiers to right) of the ski run is required.
