Love Kitchen serves pizza to homeless

Posted: Updated:

The Montana Rescue Mission serves meals everyday. Sunday, pizza was on the menu.

The Little Caesars Love Kitchen came to Billings to help with lunch.

Employees from Little Caesars on Grand Avenue baked the fresh pizza.

"We're doing cheese and pepperoni today for the crew," said Ben Southern, the Love Kitchen operator.

"It's a special treat for our guests," said Denise Smith, spokesperson for the Montana Rescue Mission.

The Love Kitchen travels across the country to feed homeless people.

"It's really fresh on site," Southern said. "When the pizza comes out, it's there right out of the oven. Kind of a bit of extra enjoyment for the people who get to eat it."

"This is phenomenal," Smith said. "We've got to thank the local franchisee at Little Caesars for being willing to provide his staff and provide us the product."

The Little Caesars Love Kitchen parked right outside the Montana Rescue Mission and while the pizza is special, for those who regularly enjoy meals, it's all about the people helping.

"It makes us feel like somebody really does care because we've got a lot of homeless people out there," said James O'Rourke, who came to Billings from Missouri.

He and others are thankful for the rescue mission programs.

"We may be down and out but the good Lord gives us a good life and gives good feeling and we've got to give thanks,"  said O'Rourke.

"It gives us just a peace to know that we see the work that God is doing up here and being able to reach out and touch lives that are otherwise broken or fractured or like us, just displaced," said Johnny Pharr, who along with his two daughters came to Billings from Florida.

"To sit down and eat pizza and just kind of again remind us of home and give us the comfort of home," Pharr said.

"Pizza was amazing," said Nicole Pharr, Johnny's 11-year old daughter. "I mean, oh wow. I love Little Caesars and just for them to come here is just outstanding."

"If you go away hungry, it's your own fault," said O'Rourke.

And another good meal was planned for supper.

The cook prepared pork, red potatoes, green beans and carrots.

Two Little Caesars Love Kitchens travel across the country and are also available for emergencies.

This truck has more stops scheduled in Montana.
