Missoula man denies child pornography charges

Posted: Updated:

A Missoula man is denying possessing several pictures depicting child pornography.

Joshua Daniel Carroll, 28 , has been charged with two felony counts of sexual abuse of children after the The Missoula County Sheriff's Office says they received two tips from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspicious activity on Twitter.

The case was passed on to the Missoula Police Department, which did an investigation and found at least 17 photos of young children performing sex acts on the account.

Police say the account belonged to Carroll, and that he later admitted the photos were his.

Carroll is also accused of fleeing to Oregon soon after admitting his guilt to police, although no charge for that has been filed.

Carroll's public defender, Joan Burbridge, requested in court Wednesday morning that Carroll be released on pre-trial supervision and he be allowed to live at a shelter while the case is pending.

Missoula County prosecutor Jennifer Clark requested the court keep bail at $50,000, which was set at his initial appearance, because he allegedly fled the state and was arrested in Oregon on July 1.

District Judge Leslie Halligan kept bail at $50,000, and Carroll remains at the Missoula jail.
