Rocky men reach National Tourney for 3rd straight year

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - For the third straight year, Rocky Mountain College's basketball team will play in the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament, to be held at the historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., March 18-24.

Rocky received the tournament's fourteenth at-large bid and join fellow Frontier Conference members Lewis-Clark State College, who won the Frontier tournament, and Montana Western, who Rocky lost to in the semifinals.

The Bears (20-10) open against No. 2-seeded Talladega (Ala.) College. The Tornadoes (29-4) are champions of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Tip is set for Thursday, March 19 at 1:15 p.m. Mountain Time.

This will be Rocky's sixth trip to the national tournament under head coach Bill Dreikosen, and ninth overall. The Bears won the National title in 2009.

“We are very happy to once again be heading to Kansas City,” Dreikosen said. “The kids are very excited to be capping off a nice season at the national tourney.”

“We don't know much about Talladega right now, but know they are a very solid program and very deserving of the No. 2 seed.”
