Big Brothers Big Sisters
The mission of Big Brother Big Sisters of Yellowstone County is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships.  This mission, carried out by three programs, contributes to better schools, brighter futures and stronger communities:

  • Community Based—this program matches adults over 18 to children age 5—15 who will spend an hour or two a week doing things together that they enjoy.
  • School Based—this program pairs high school age students with elementary, middle school or Head Start students.  The Bigs meet with the Little’s during school hours where they work on homework, play at recess and form lasting friendships.
  • Lunch Buddies—the third program provides the opportunity for adults from the community to be paired with an elementary school child to be their lunch buddy once or twice a week. During the summer months the Big arranges lunch plans with the Little.

As part of the School Based Program, the high school volunteers are responsible for their rides to and from the schools where they meet the children they mentor. Unfortunately, not all of them have transportation forcing them to resign from the program.  Western Security Bank made a $10,000 donation for Big Brothers Big Sisters to purchase a van to provide rides to student mentors. This will allow more children to receive a visit by a Big Brother or Sister.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor there are so many ways to get involved with this great organization!  In fact, right now there are 20+ boys that are waiting for a Big to be matched with.  In addition, there are opportunities for local business people to be matched with a Little for lunch once a week.  You will not regret your decision to join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County.  Contact Big Brother Big Sisters at 406.248.2229 for more information or visit their website at http://www.bbbsyc.org/
