Fredrick Maw made his initial court appearance in Helena on Thursday afternoon, and is facing 12 felony counts of arson in connection with a string of fires in Lewis & Clark County and Broadwater County.

Sheriff Leo Dutton announced on Wednesday night that Fredrick J. Maw, 18, has been arrested in connection with a string of fires in Lewis & Clark County and Broadwater County.

HELENA - There are reports of several wildfires burning northeast of Helena.
Initial reports indicate that the fires are burning in and near the Cabin Gulch area.
There are no controlled burns scheduled for today.
MTN reporter Marnee Banks is en route to get details, and says that she can see three separate plumes of smoke.

WINSTON - Crews responded to a wildfire in Winston at around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

WISE RIVER - A wildfire that gave Wise River residents a run for their money has calmed down.
The Pioneer Fire broke out Monday afternoon about five miles west of Wise River. It burned about 33 acres on both sides of Highway 43.
It was declared 100 percent contained at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. No structures were burned.
One engine remains at the fire.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it's believed to have started on private land.
