KALISPELL - Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials want to remind parents of the special youth hunting season coming up this Thursday and Friday.
The youth hunt is scheduled for the October 18th and October 19th for deer only. The dates were picked by FWP to coincide with the Montana Educators Association conference to allow children not to miss any school.
The hunt still requires that the youth have a general A-tag or B-tag deer license. FWP's John Fraley says the special hunt is designed to give kids a chance to hunt without having to deal with all the crowds.
"Well the commission established a youth hunt to get those kids an opportunity to get out there before the mass of hunters are out in the woods. So it's a fantastic opportunity, and it's during the MEA days, so a lot of kids have school off on that Thursday and Friday, so it's just a beautiful combination, to get youngsters out there," he explained.
General hunting season for everyone else in Montana opens up on Saturday, October 20th.
