BILLINGS - Election results here in Yellowstone County should be finalized sometime Thursday night.
As many as 20,000 ballots remain to be counted, but the ballot counting machines are working again.
The technician arrived at 1:00 Thursday morning and finished working on the machines in the afternoon.
The elections office says it's close to getting the final numbers on the candidate races, but those number will not change much from what's already been posted.
Of the approximately 20,000 ballots that remain, most are page two of the ballots - that includes the ballot measures.
Yellowstone County Elections Administrator Bret Rutherford says the the folds in the absentee ballots caused the machines to jam.
The technician was able to fix that problem and clean up the machines. They're now back up and running.
"We're not getting the jams any more," Rutherford said. "We still do get them because of the absentees but not nearly as much which is great. They're running a lot faster now. As of right now, we'll probably have about 20,000 of the second page to run and just a little bit of the resolutions of the first page and that will be it."
Rutherford says there are about 500 resolution ballots. Those ballots may have had coffee spilled on them, need duplicating or are over-votes that need to be checked by judges.
The technician will be available until all the counting is done, possibly sometime Thursday night.
