Woman dies near Whitehall in crash with semi

WHITEHALL - One woman is dead after her vehicle hit a semi-truck head-on near Whitehall, according to Jefferson County Undersheriff Mike Johnson.

The crash happened on Highway 55 around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 9 on Wednesday. The female driver was reportedly headed north-bound when she hit the semi-truck who was headed south, according to Johnson. Both vehicles caught on fire, but the semi-truck driver is reportedly in good condition.

Both lanes of the highway were closed off for Montana Highway Patrol troopers to reconstruct the crash scene. It is unclear why the vehicles crashed head-on.
