West stays alive, eliminates Skyview

BOZEMAN - The West Lady Bears stayed alive in their quest to repeat as State AA Volleyball champions Friday, beating Skyview 3-1 in loser-out play, ending the Lady Falcons tournament.

The Lady Bears had their strong attack working all match, generting 55 kills, led by Cherina Walen's 15. Janiel Olson and Jenna Fiscus had 13 each as well.

West won the opening two games before Skyview found life in the third, taking it 25-22 to stay alive in the match. The Lady Falcons were led by Meghan Ballock, who tallied 15 kills, and Mikara Ostermiller, who had six of Skyview's 15 blocks.

But West regained their strength at the end of game four, reeling off 12 of the final 15 points after Skyview had tied the game at 13, to win it 25-16, and take the match 3-1.

West will now play Bozeman in tonight's 4th place game. The winner will be assured of a trophy and still have a chance to reach tomorrow's state title game, while the loser will be eliminated.
