There was a recent report that indicated Billings has some of the worst drivers in the country, a dubious honor at best. However, just about every community has residents who are convinced that their drivers are the worst and this report is not likely to change their minds.
This is not to say that communities such as Billings and Laurel don't have their share of bad drivers. And it is not only on street s and highways. Some of the worst drivers I have ever encountered can be found in shopping center parking lots. I am convinced that people who have flunked their drivers test more than six times are given a provisional driver license and only allowed to drive in shopping center parking lots.
In recent years I have observed more and more people running red lights. We have a number of drivers who see the light turn yellow while still half a block away but are convinced that they can make it through the intersection before the light turns red.
We also have those drivers whose reflexes are so slow or their eyesight so bad that they approach a stop sign where there is a crosswalk and are unable to get their vehicle stopped until they have completely blocked the crosswalk, forcing pedestrians to walk out into the traffic lane, dodging cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Finally, I'd like to offer you a couple of driving tips. First, if you suddenly find yourself behind a vehicle with a DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT bumper sticker, exercise extreme caution. Slow down and stay at least 200 car lengths behind it. And forget what the drivers manual says about who has the right of way at unmarked intersections. Always yield the right of way to any vehicle over 15-years old, sporting a big dent in the side and driven by someone who looks like they don't have insurance.
