UPDATE: Missing Helena woman Angelica Gray being held in LA

UPDATE: Angelica Melody Gray, the Helena woman and mother of two who was reported missing on December 11th, is alive and currently being held in custody in Los Angeles, California.

Helena Police Chief Troy McGee made the announcement on Monday morning, saying that his office was notified of her arrest on Saturday.

This news comes several days after James Alexander Lee was arrested in Madera County, California, for his possible connection with Gray.

Prior to that, investigators had obtained surveillance video of Lee and Gray trying to get a hotel room in Montana on December 12th.

They were also seen that day at a homeless facility in Missoula and given gas money by a church representative.

Later that day, their vehicle was sighted near Bonner, Montana.

After Lee was picked up in California, investigators determined that there was no indication he was holding Gray unlawfully.

Chief McGee said, "We have no indication he's not telling the truth and the investigation so far has largely corroborated Lee's statements."

Lee told police that he dropped Gray off in Madera, where she reportedly had planned to start a new life.

Gray was living at the YWCA with her two children when she disappeared, and YWCA director Kellie McBride said, "We're so thrilled that she's alive. Now we just have to get to the bottom of what happened. It does not make sense, because she was working so hard on her life here. Maybe we'll never know, but it just doesn't make sense."

Derek VanLuchene of Ryan United said that people should focus on what's important: "It does sort of create that, 'Well, how could she? How could she do that around the holidays?', and things like that, but again, the main thing is that she's safe and that she's found and the other circumstances around it, you know, those are things shes going to have to deal with."

Gray remains in custody in California awaiting extradition back to Montana.

The warrant for her arrest was based on a probation violation.
