BOZEMAN - Two trails in the Gallatin National Forest that closed due to the Millie Fire reopen today.
The South Cottonwood and Blackmore trails were closed at the end of August because of public and firefighter safety concerns.
The area beyond the junction of Storm Castle Road and Rat Flats and the Storm Castle Creek Ridge Trail are still closed. These areas are remain closed due to public safety concerns resulting from falling snags and rolling debris.
The 10,515 acre Millie Fire is now 90% contained. The fire continues smoldering in the East Fork of South Cottonwood near Mount Blackmore (below Alex Lowe Peak) and in the upper and southern portion of Storm Castle Creek (about 2 miles west of Divide Peak). The Forest is regularly monitoring the fire and has not seen any fire growth since October 3 when the area received some moisture.
For additional closure information please contact the Bozeman Ranger District at (406) 522-2520 or visit the Millie Fire at www.inciweb.org.
