HELENA - A 31-year-old Helena man who pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted deliberate homicide after his wife and the couple's nanny were shot has fired his public defenders and is now representing himself. Jeremy S. MacGregor said during a court hearing yesterday that his attorneys displayed "hostile emotions" toward him and that he did not have proper access to witnesses and police reports.
HELENA - A 59-year-old Helena man accused of beating his wife with a cane, breaking several bones in her face, has been charged with felony aggravated assault. Roy Lee Kaufman made his initial appearance in District Court yesterday and is due to be arraigned Aug. 5. He is accused of beating his wife on June 3.
GLASGOW - The Montana Highway Patrol says a 13-year-old boy has died in a one-vehicle rollover about eight miles north of Glasgow. The patrol says a 38-year-old man from St. Marie was southbound on Montana Highway 24 Wednesday when his van left the road and ran over a reflector pole. He overcorrected and the van crossed the road, went into the ditch and through a fence. The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital.
GREAT FALLS - University of Great Falls officials say athletics director Andrew Jugan has resigned after three weeks on the job. Jugan began working at UGF on July 1. He said yesterday that working at UGF may not be the best fit for him or the university. UGF President Eugene J. McAllister says the school is disappointed, but understands Jugan's decision. He says the search for a full time athletics director will resume immediately.
