MISSOULA - Law enforcement officials spent the early morning hours on Wednesday looking for any signs of missing fugitive David Burgert, who was last seen over a year ago after leading police on a chase that ended in a shootout in the Graves Creek area.

Missoula Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jason Johnson says that 40 people from seven different agencies gathered at around 6 a.m. to conduct an extensive search of the area in which Burgert engaged deputies in the gun battle last June.

Johnson says that although the search did not yield any new evidence in the case, it did eliminate a large rugged and thickly wooded area from places that Burgert may have fled to.

The case will remain open until Burgert is found, according to Johnson. Anyone with information about Burgert's whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at (406) 721.4444 or the Missoula County Sheriff's department at (406) 258.4810.
