STEVENSVILLE - A Stevensville math teacher is one of two Montana teachers awarded with the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science, the nations' highest honor for U.S. math and science teachers.

Tammy Johnson has been teaching math at Stevensville High School for the past 28 years.

Johnson was in Washington, D.C., this week, where she was honored along with the nation's other awardees.

Finalists must complete a rigorous application process that incorporates video footage of classroom lessons, along with substantial written documentation of impacts on student achievement.

Johnson received a $10,000 award and a Presidential certificate.

The other Montana recipient was Carol Pleninger, a science teacher at Havre High School.
