UPDATE: St. Vincent Healthcare eliminates 28 positions. That announcement this afternoon from the hospital's President and CEO, Jim Paquette.
In a statement released by the hospital, Paquette said the decision to eliminate the positions was made in order to address current economic conditions, as well as future changes in health care.
He goes on to say that the realignment of the hospital's workforce elevates growth initiatives, while providing a more adequate level of staffing and leadership to match current patient volume.
Management positions account for one third of the "realignment", which also includes both clinical and non-clinical positions.
There is, however, no reduction in the number of bedside nurses and the hospital is still actively recruiting nurses and clinical experts.
The cuts represent 1.3 percent of the hospital's 2,150 employees.
The employees were offered an undisclosed severance package. We tried to reach Jim Paquette for additional comment on this decision, but he was not available.
