BILLINGS-St. Vincent Healthcare held a special brunch today, honoring Foster Grandparents in our community.

For 40-years, the foster grandparent programs have helped non-profit day cares, Head Start Centers, even at risk teens.

57 grandparents were on hand for today's luncheon.
Each year, these grandmas and grandpas volunteer as many as five thousand hours a year in Billings and the surrounding area.

Ten special grandparents were presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteering four-thousand hours individually.

First graders from McKinley elementary showed their appreciation with a special performance. Some volunteers feel the services provided by foster grandparents are needed now more than ever.

"I want everyone who has a chance to get in there and help these kids in school. We have so many that have come from split families now. Divorce is on the rise, so they need so much more help. They really some love and attention." said Helen Oberg Volunteer Grandmother.

The Foster Grandparent program got its start nationally 46 years ago, as a response to the War on Poverty during the administration of President Lyndon Johnson.
