BILLINGS - Securing the border, medical marijuana, white supremacist groups and prescription drug abuse.
Law enforcement told Senator Max Baucus these are among their top challenges in 2011.
The Senator held a roundtable discussion with representatives from seven law enforcement agencies, including the Billings Police Department and the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.
Another concern is federal funding that helps different agencies coordinate in drug enforcement.
The Senator wanted to know what the agencies need.
"What are some of the later trends that must be addressed and a lot of that is what kinds of drugs must be addressed?" Baucus said. "And the more I learn by asking questions and the more they tell me what their needs are, the better we can all work together to help make sure the Billings area is as safe as it possibly can be."
While the Roundtable included people from this area, the consensus is law enforcement faces the same challenges throughout Montana.
