BILLINGS - School District Two trustees have called for a special meeting on Monday, to vote on proposed settlement with Superintendent Keith Beeman.
If the board approves, Dr. Beeman would discontinue his day to day duties, immediately.
Trustees Kathy Aragon and Lindy Graves along with school district attorney Jeff Weldon and a Montana School Boards Association attorney, negotiated with Beeman.
The agreed upon severance will pay nearly $112,000 for what would have been the remainder of his contract through June 30, 2012.
Trustees voted last month, 7-2, to terminate Beeman's contract
He has served as superintendent for a little more than a year.
Beeman's contract calls for a salary of 160-thousand dollars a year.
The proposed severance package will pay close to $67,000 in his remaining salary until June 30th, a little more than $34,000 in benefits and about $11, 000 in additional consideration.
The district will also pay for long term disability, life insurance, medical dental and relocation.
"Basically, this assigned the dollar to half of his salary and full benefits that would normally be carried out through the contract," Graves said. "Us trustees and the lawyers came up with an agreement that keeps the district whole and legally, hopefully, out of lawsuits or anything down the road."
If the board approves the severance on Monday, Dr. Beeman's employment will officially end.
He will be available as a consultant for the interim superintendent until November 1st.
We called Dr. Beeman for his thoughts.
He said he has chosen not to comment on the proceedings.
