NEAR COLUMBUS - A case of road rage lands one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, the Stillwater Sheriff's Office responded to an assault call in the Yellowstone River Ranch subdivision between Columbus and Reed Point.

According to Sgt. Chip Kem, the caller stated that a man they didn't know had followed her husband and adult son home. The man then threatened them with a handgun in their driveway. A struggle over the firearm ensued between the three men and the suspect was shot. He left the scene, but deputies were able to locate the man at the hospital in Columbus where he was getting treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Sgt. Kem said the suspect was transported to Billings for further treatment.

The homeowners were not injured during the altercation.

The suspect is a Stillwater County resident, but his name has not been released.
