QB Brett Smith recovering from hand surgery

Laramie, WY - University of Wyoming freshman quarterback Brett Smith is recovering from surgery on his throwing hand in Laramie.

"Brett had surgery Thursday," said Christensen. "The surgery went well, and we expect Brett to be back during spring ball."

Wyoming does not discuss details of injuries or surgeries. Smith began wearing gloves during games late in the season.

Smith was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2011. The native of Salem, Ore., started all 13 games his true freshman season, throwing for 2,622 yards and accounting for 3,332 yards of total offense. He ranked No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 33 in the nation in total offense.

Spring practice for the Pokes will begin on Monday, March 19 and will run through the spring game on Saturday, April 21.
