A weak system will work across the region today and produce a slight chance of snow showers east of Billings. Otherwise, the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with highs today mainly in the 20s. Lows in our area will be in the single digits and low teens. It will be chilly tonight, but weather shouldn't adversely affect your New Years Eve celebration.
A stronger system will move through on Tuesday, carrying a better chance of snow. Some accumulation is expected over Eastern Montana and the Western Dakotas. Billings is right on the edge of this system, and some light afternoon snow is certainly possible. Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages with highs in the 20s to lower 30s.
Today: A 20 percent chance of snow showers after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Wind chill values as low as -10. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Wind chill values as low as zero. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
New Year's Day: A 50 percent chance of snow after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Wind chill values as low as -5. West southwest wind 15 to 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Wind chill values as low as -5. West northwest wind around 15 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31. West wind 15 to 25 mph.
