Political website says Congressman Rehberg will challenge Senator Tester in 2012

According to an article on rollcall.com, Republican Representative Denny Rehberg will challenge first-term Democratic Senator Jon Tester in the 2012 election.

The article cites a knowledgeable Montana GOP insider, who says Rehberg will announce his candidacy on Saturday at the Lincoln/Reagan Dinner in Helena.

The article states that Rehberg's status as a well-known at-large Congressman, pushes the matchup between the two politicians, to among the most competitive Senate races in the country - setting up Montana to play a key role in potentially swinging the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

The Opinion Diagnostics survey of 400 likely Montana voters showed 49 percent backing Rehberg compared with 43 percent for Tester.
