BILLINGS - The people of Billings can now use text messaging to anonymously report crimes to the Billings Police Department.
According to a press release on Tuesday from the BPD, the department is now using a software called TipSoft that allows citizens to anonymously communicate with the police department from the palm of their hand.
The submission process can work any of three ways: via a mobile app called Tip Submit, visiting the website www.tipsubmit.com, or through standard text messaging.
Upon submission of a tip, the user should receive a reply confirming the submission, and then the user will be able to communicate anonymously with the department by simply replying.
To submit a tip via text messaging, send a text message to "CRIMES" (274637). The message must start with the keyword "BPDTIP", followed by your tip. To cancel, use the keyword "STOP", and for help, text "HELP" to the same number. Normal message and data rates may apply.
People can still continue to call Crime Stoppers as normal at (406) 245-6660.
