Pine Creek Fire burns more than 12,000 acres, five homes confirmed destroyed

UPDATE: Pine Creek fire burns more than 12,000 acres.

Current Size: greater than 12,000 acres

Summary: The Pine Creek Fire was called into Livingston Dispatch about 2 pm in the afternoon on August 29th. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Pine Creek Café, school and church were not burned in the fire. There have been a few minor injuries to the public and firefighters, but no firefighters have been killed.

Today's Operations: The southern end of the fire was active and made approximately a 1 mile run to the south. Fire retardant planes, helicopters, a dozer and a 20-person crew responded to that area.
Northward movement in the Deep Creek area was limited.

Tonight's Operations: Five engines and a water tender will be patrolling and responding to flare-ups.

Tomorrow's Operations: A Northern Rockies Interagency Incident Management Team will take over the fire Friday morning. Additional fire resources will be arriving to the fire during the day tomorrow.

Evacuations and Closures: East River Road is closed from the junction with highway 89 at the north end, to south of Pine Creek Campground Road.
The evacuation area includes Deep Creek Road, Deep Creek Bench Road, Deep Creek South Road, and Pool Creek Road. It also includes all areas south of Pool Creek to Barney Creek.

Gallatin National Forest officials have issued a closure order for National Forest System lands in the area from the West Boulder River west to the forest boundary in Paradise Valley, and from the forest boundary south of Livingston to George Lake and east to the Tumble Creek drainage which is a tributary of the West Boulder River.

People that are not getting their mail delivered to them due to the closed road can pick up their mail at the Annex on Jefferson Street after 10:00 a.m.

LIVINGSTON - Fire officials now confirm that five homes and several outbuilding have been lost in the Pine Creek Fire south of Livingston in the Paradise Valley.

Fire bosses say the fire has already blackened more than 5,000 acres.

Road closures are still in effect south of Livingston.

The East River Road is closed from the junction at Highway 89 south to Mill Creek Road.

The evacuation area includes residences east of East River Road from Suce Creek Road south to Pine Creek Campground Road.

The evacuation center is located at the Livingston Civic Center.

Fire officials are holding a meeting at the Civic Center tonight to brief the public on the progress in fighting the Pine Creek Fire.
