The suspect is identified as Martin Jon Pond, 27, who also goes by the name of Martin J. Bouwkamp Jr.

Pond is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

State prison records show he is currently on probation. Authorities said Pond received a suspended sentence on Dec. 30 for felony theft. Pond was charged for stealing a vehicle in May.

Sheriff Mike Linder said Pond may be driving a grey Honda Odyssey van with Montana license plate 316120B.

Linder also said Pond should be considered armed and dangerous and the public should not approach him.

A second caller reported that a person had been shot.

When deputies arrived they found a man lying outside the residence.

Medical personnel arrived and attended to the victim, who died at the scene.

Sheriff's detectives obtained a search warrant for the property and were continuing their investigation Friday afternoon.

A local funeral home was at the scene just before 1 p.m. to transport the victim's body to the morgue.
