MT Rep Derek Skees joins State Auditor race

HELENA - Montana State Representative Derek Skees (R-Whitefish) has confirmed he is running for State Auditor in 2012.

Skees was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 2010. During the 62nd Legislative Session Skees gained attention for carrying the Montana Nullification Reaffirmation Act, an act aimed at prohibiting Montana's right to nullify federal law.

Skees has prided himself in his knowledge of the Constitution and the ideals of the Founding Fathers.

According to his campaign website Skees says, "My goal will always be to leave the citizens of this state more free than when I took office. I will be a tireless advocate of Tax and government waste reduction. We must treat the current financial crisis as free market advocates and work to reduce the governments spending so that we don't have to raise taxes. We must hold sacred the Property Rights of each citizen and work to turn back the clock on the erosion of those unalienable rights. State law should guarantee that the security of the individual is assured by his firearms and not the power of the police state."

Skees was born in Orlando, Florida and moved to Montana in 1992. He is a graduate from University of Central Florida with a degree in history. He is married and has three children and three grandchildren.

Skees joins the race for State Auditor against incumbent Monica Lindeen (D).
