PORTLAND, Ore. - The Great Northwest Athletic Conference revealed it's Academic All-Sports final standings Tuesday, and MSUB's women combined to win the women's title by three points over Northwest Nazarene. Seattle Pacific took the men's title.
The Yellowjackets finished fourth in the combined championship standings, based on the cumulative grade point averages of all male and female athletes on the official team rosters. Points are awarded on two-point increments.
"We are extremely proud of the excellent academic achievements of our MSUB student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Dr. Gary Gray. "Having our female student-athletes win the GNAC Academic All-Sport title is a wonderful accomplishment that demonstrates their sincere commitment to academic excellence.I know each of our teams will continue to work hard, under the leadership of a fine coaching staff, to excel academically, athletically, and personally."
MSUB claimed the highest GPA in women's basketball (3.57) and women's soccer (3.48) en route to claiming their first-ever women's academic title since the conference first awarded the award following the 2001-02 season. It is the third time in a row that MSUB's women's basketball team has posted the highest GPA in the league.
The Yellowjacket women also had the second-highest GPA in softball and women's golf and the third-highest in women's cross country.
On the men's side, MSUB claimed the second-highest GPA in men's golf and had the third-highest GPA in men's soccer.
