BOZEMAN - Roger Trammell, a Montana State University football player, pleaded not guilty this morning to charges stemming from an alleged assault on an MSU basketball player.

Trammell is charged with assault for the incident that left Xavier Blount, a MSU basketball player, in the hospital with facial injuries and a dislocated shoulder.

The incident reportedly happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 12 behind Bar IX in Bozeman when the students got into an argument. The argument escalated into a fight.

Trammell was released on his own recognizance after appearing in court on Wednesday. Trammell has been dismissed from the Bobcat football team for his part in the alleged assault.

Other players who were also reportedly involved have yet to appear in court.

MSU announced Zach Minter, an all-conference defensive tackle for MSU, will not be penalized for his role in the incident. Minter is accused of giving an ID to MSU sprinter Chris Wilson. Wilson was suspended from the track team for one week.

Blount who suffered a separated shoulder and severe lacerations on his face is out for the season but no penalty for his part in the incident has been decided.

Peter Fields, MSU athletic director, told KBZK/KXLF sports director Ted Dawson that Trammell might be considered for reinstatement if the charges against him are lowered and it is determined that he acted in self-defense.
