KALISPELL - Kalispell Middle School students are being arrested bringing illegal prescription drugs to school, and most recently, police say students have been caught with synthetic heroin.
"It seems like they get younger and younger every year," said Jason Parce, the Kalispell Police Department school resource officer. "But I think ultimately what we can credit all these investigations to and trying this all off early is that the public is becoming more educated, more aware, of some of the issues our youth are facing."
Parce says recent interventions netted three girls between the ages of 13 and 14 who were using and distributing prescription drugs.
The drug found on these students was Suboxone, or a synthetic type heroin.
Parce says one of the three girls was arrested, and he credits parents with that.
"What happened is, I got a call from the administration, they had received a tip from a parent. This tip that three Kalispell Middle School students, had consumed prescription narcotics, the Friday before, the call came in on a Tuesday."
Parce says it makes it much harder to keep kids safe if he and the school doesn't get the help they need from the home.
"Stay involved in your kids life, it's not your job to be their best friend, it's your job to be their parent. And stay in contact with the school."
