BILLINGS - Today is a big day for 22-year-old Lcpl. Chris Bogner of Miles City. He will receive a Purple Heart and be promoted to Corporal. His brother has the honor of pinning the awards on him.
Bogner sustained life-threatening injuries from a makeshift explosive device in Afghanistan, and he has been recovering at the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Maryland.
A picture that Chris Bogner posted on his Facebook support page shows him in a hospital bed with a "thumbs up", allowing his true character and fighting mentality to shine through the wires, hook-ups, tubes, bruises and scars. He continues to heal, and is receiving large amounts of support from family and friends.
Along with the image on the Facebook page, Bogner wrote, "Thank you for your prayers and support! They're helping me get better each day."
Although the U.S. Marine Corps will not comment on injured servicemen and women, Bogner's family has been updating friends and family through a Facebook support page.
Here is the latest update on Lcpl. Bogner's condition:
UPDATE 8/2 DAY 22
Chris' post with his picture pretty much sums it up. Today was another great day, we just have to convince Chris to get some sleep now. He's hardly slept since he flipped the switch yesterday. He will have surgery to try to restore vision in his right eye tommorow or monday and we ask for prayer concerning that, we are praying for God to do mighty things with his eye. Jesus made the blind man see. He is still battleing the phnemonia and other issues, Tommorow he will be getting promoted to corporal and will be pinned by his brother! I believe he will also be receiving his Purple Heart in a ceromony at the same time. Chris is just amazed at all the support, kind gestures and prayers.
Thanks again for your many and mighty prayers, KEITH CONNIE AND KEN
