DILLON- A Superior man was killed by a stray bullet while hunting in Beaverhead County over the weekend.
Edward Anderson, 56, was hunting with his father-in-law, who reported that Anderson had been dropped off and had not returned to his starting point as planned, according to the Beaverhead County Sheriff's Office.
While searching the area, Sheriff Jay Hansen found Anderson dead about ¼ of a mile from his starting point. His body was transported to Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon.
A coroner's examination found that Anderson died as a result of a single gunshot wound to his chest, a wound that he could not have inflicted upon himself, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials say it's been determined that Anderson was killed by a stray bullet. He had been in an area where other hunters were shooting earlier in the morning.
The Beaverhead County Sheriff's Office reminds hunters to wear adequate hunter orange, be aware of other hunters in the area, and be sure of your target and beyond before shooting.
