MISSOULA - A Missoula woman underwent surgery late Monday afternoon after her estranged husband stabbed her multiple times. The incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. on Desmet Road by Empire Building Materials.
Investigators say Emmitt Hogsten, 45, stabbed his 34-year-old wife four or five times, including several times in the chest and once in the neck.
The Missoula County Sheriff's Office says Hogsten and his wife are separated and he recently came back to Missoula to rekindle the relationship.
The two went out for a drive Monday afternoon and Hogsten tried to convince her to get back together. She refused and that's when he pulled off on Desmet Road and attacked her with a knife, police say.
The victim then got out of the pickup and went into a business for help. When deputies arrived, Hogsten was still on the scene and he was arrested.
Investigators interviewed the woman and she's in the hospital in stable condition.
Hogsten will likely appear in court Tuesday afternoon and his charges could include attempted homicide and assault with a weapon.
