MISSOULA - The Missoula Aquatic Club celebrates its 31st year of hosting the Missoula Firecracker Invitational June 21-24. The competition begins Thursday and includes 30 teams at the 50-meter pool located at Splash Montana in Missoula. The event is free and open to the public.
More than 490 swimmers representing seven states (Montana, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, and Colorado) along with three Canadian teams, are registered for the swim meet.
There are also several master swimmers scheduled to compete in the Firecracker. Both Missoula swim teams - the Missoula Aquatic Club and the Missoula YMCA Swim Team - will have swimmers in the event. Additionally, former local high school standouts who are now competing in college will also be competing and raise the level of competition.
This four-day competition kicks off Thursday evening with the 1500-meter race at 6:30 pm. Starting time for Friday, Saturday and Sunday's events is 8:00 am.
