BILLINGS- The Anderson family was just about to sit down to dinner on Sunday when a phone call came that put the brakes on the chances of a nice, quiet night with the family.
The Q2 news director was on the phone, calling to tell Tim Anderson that he had just won the grand prize in the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway -a $550,000 home in the Ironwood Estates.
"I didn't believe him," recalled Anderson. "He said, 'Can you come down here now?' and I told him, 'We're eating dinner - you're going to have to wait.' And he said,' Well, I think you can skip dinner and come down.'"
It was less than an hour later that Tim, his wife Becki, and their children (Jade, Kimber and Bronson) met a slew of extended family at the Q2 studios to shake hands, take pictures and prepare for a whirlwind evening capped off by a stop at their new dream home (click on video link above to see more).
However, the sudden news came to the Anderson family at a time of mourning. Becki Anderson's mother passed away on Thursday following a battle with breast cancer. The previous Saturday, Tim's grandmother had passed.
"It's been an emotional roller coaster for the last couple of weeks," said Becki.
As the family was making the rounds Sunday night, another member of the family was never far from 5-year-old Kimber Anderson's reach: a new teddy bear named 'Grandma bear.'
"She, they made bears in remembrance of grandma," said Becki. "All the grandkids did. And this bear's supposed to go anywhere special with us."
And the entire family agreed that the St. Jude Dream Home, a house built to help give children fighting deadly diseases hope, is about as special of a place as they could go.
A place they can now call home.
