MISSOULA, MT - A man identified as a suspect in a reported Missoula sexual assault contacted the Missoula County Sheriff's Department after seeing a picture of himself on a "Can You ID me" poster put out by Crimestoppers.
The 21-year-old Missoula man called on Oct. 26, one day after the poster was released, telling investigators that he was the man pictured in a Crimestoppers poster, Jason Johnson with the sheriff's office said.
The document was released on October 25, asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in an alleged sexual assault case that started at Boomers Lounge and ended with an assault somewhere near Blue Mountain Road.
Johnson says that the man, whose name has not yet been released, called the Crimestoppers tip line and agreed to meet with deputies who gathered his information and arraigned for him to come to the sheriff's office for an interview with detectives.
The man retained an attorney prior to the interview, who advised him not to speak with law enforcement.
The victim in this case positively identified the man on bar surveillance footage as the man who assaulted her and his appearance is an exact match to the man seen on the footage, according to a news release.
The case will now be forwarded to the Missoula County Attorney's Office for review and possible charges.
