Man pleads "not guilty" to homicide charges

A Billings man charged with deliberate homicide has pleaded not guilty.

41-year-old David Isaacson appeared by video before Judge Susan Watters for his arraignment Thursday morning.

The prosecution alleges Isaacson shot and killed 34-year-old Sabah Mallak on Christmas morning.

The shooting happened in the Billings Heights shortly before 1 a.m.

Court documents say Isaacson intended to kill Mallak to end an abusive relationship his girlfriend was having with Mallak.

Isaacson has also pleaded not guilty to three felony charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Two of those charges were added this morning.

During the arraignment, Deputy County Attorney Ed Zink said Isaacson was high on methamphetamine the night of the shooting, which was unknown during the initial investigation.

Isaacson's bail was set at $200,000, and a trial date is pending.
