Man killed in Big Sky crash

A man is dead after his vehicle left the roadway and went over an embankment on Big Sky Spur Road this morning.

Shortly after 8 a.m. today, authorities were called to the crash, which happened about six miles up Big Sky Spur Road from the turnoff at Gallatin Road in Big Sky, according to Trooper J.D. McMartin of the Montana Highway Patrol.

The man was declared dead at the scene. His identity is not yet being released until authorities can notify his family.

The vehicle traveled off of the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest about 100 yards down the embankment, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. Initial reports indicate the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, McMartin said.
