The eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 are closed from Manhattan to Belgrade due to a fatal crash on Friday afternoon.
A van reportedly broke down on I-90 and when the driver got out and stepped into traffic, he was hit by a passing car, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
The victim was a North Carolina man. The person who hit him was from Missouri.
Eastbound traffic at Manhattan is backed up as much as four miles.
Officials on scene are having trouble rerouting traffic because the Frontage Road is under construction.
The crash happened at around 12:45 p. m.
Sheriff's Chaplain Warren Heibert is at the scene.
