LAKESIDE, Mont. - A 28-year-old man died in a car accident just outside Lakeside early Monday morning. Officers said his pick-up truck slid on black ice, rolled and hit a rock wall. The man's name has not yet been released and Montana Highway Patrol officials say he is not from the Flathead Valley.
The accident was reported Monday around 4:20 a.m., when a passsing motorist found a 2001 white Ford Ranger on its top with the wheels still spinning near mile marker 96, just south of Lakeside.
MHP Troopers said the man lost control of his vehicle on black ice, over-corrected and slid, flipping his truck and hit a rock wall.
Troopers said the man was trapped in the car and died instantly.
Lakeside QRU, Somers Fire Department, the Flathead County Sheriff's Department and Montana Highway Patrol all responded to the wreck. Authorities say alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash and that the man was wearing a seat belt.
