Man cleared of all charges in random hitchhiker shooting

UPDATE - Christopher Lloyd Danielson, the man who had been accused of shooting a hitchhiker near Glasgow last Saturday, has been cleared of any involvement in the shooting.

Valley County Sheriff Glenn Meier tells us Danielson was released from custody in Glasgow on Thursday.

Danielson was originally charged with assault with a weapon.

Initial reports indicated that he drove up next to 39-year-old Raymond Dolin of West Virginia, shot him, then fled the scene.

But Sheriff Meier tells us that his office's investigation has "...unequivocally proven Danielson had no association with the shooting."

As for the real story of what led to Dolin's injuries, Sheriff Meier says they've made significant strides in the case and should have an announcement on Friday afternoon.

Dolin was reportedly walking the country doing research for a book on the kindness of America.

Danielson is now in jail in Wolf Point on a DUI charge from Saturday night.
