BILLINGS - The fireworks were on display a little bit early in the afternoon over at Dehler Park this 4th of July, at least every time Robert Maddox stepped up to the plate.
The left handed slugger crushed not 1, not 2, but 3 homeruns on Wednesday to go with 5 RBI. However despite Maddox's sparkling effort at the dish, the Mustangs could not fight off Helena in a back and forth affair.
The Brewers, recipients of 12 free passes from the Mustangs' pitching staff, were able to capitilize from Billings' genorosity. The Ponies did take a 7-5 lead in the 7th, thanks to Maddox's 3rd homer of the day, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead for the third time allowing the Brewers to score 3 more in the 8th to ultimately win it, 8-7.
The loss now puts the Mustangs in a tie for first with Great Falls at 10-7, as the Voyagers have now won 5 in a row. Billings will host the Brewers again Thursday night, 7:05 p.m. at Dehler Park.
